Resources

I do tend to suggest my own work as a starting place, especially regarding many trans and/or mental health-related topics. But for more, see:

Transness & Gender

Good page with resources offered by the Trans Journalists Association, including a style guide.

The Trans Data Library, a sister site of Assigned Media.

Check out TransLash Media …

Mental Health

I frequently recommend the media organization Mad in America, begun by pharma journalist Robert Whitaker. (This was a long media critique essay I published with them, many years ago.)

Tons of resources and groups etc., on the Wildflower Alliance’s site. For more, see this piece I did on them, and this other piece I did on them.

A couple worthwhile newsletters, other than my own:
Underground Transmissions
Mental Hellth

Media & Journalism

Here’s a post I did on how to improve your media diets …

I highly recommend Interrupting Criminalization’s offerings for journalists and others.

Nonprofit newsroom focused on power and inequity: The Objective.

U.S. Press Freedom Tracker via Freedom of the Press Foundation.

Others: Organization for Accessible Journalism, Institute for Nonprofit News, the American Journalism Project, which is funding all sorts of (local) publications and the States Newsroom (find a local newsroom in your region).

I’m keeping this page short and figure intentionally not endorsing many other (large) orgs / outlets. That said: If you have a link you’d like me to consider for this page, please write me.
